The Register is divided into Modalities.



 


Psychodynamic


The psychodynamic modality of psychotherapy and counselling, includes all traditional psychoanalytic and depth-psychology schools, as well as newer developments within the field. IAPC registrants will have demonstrated that their training and experience in the psychodynamic modality meets the requirements of the register, as an analyst, psychodynamic psychotherapist or psychodynamic counsellor.

Psycho-Systems Analysis

Founded in 1988, by Steven & Pauline Richards, Psycho-Systems Analysis is a Jungian based, depth-psychology modality, within the psychodynamic; integrative, clinical hypnosis, biopsychosocial, clinical-psychophysiology, evolutionary and field-informational domains of psychotherapy. It is part of the emerging new paradigm approach to 21st century psychology and psychotherapy, that includes the evolutionary psychiatry and psychotherapy of Dr Anthony Stevens, and the affective neuroscience, and neuropsychoanalysis of Professors Jaak Panksepp and Mark Solms. Early supporters of the development of Psycho-Systems Analysis, included: Franz Jung (only son of Carl Gustav Jung); founder of the biopsychosocial medical model; professor George L Engel; Jungian Analyst Dr Anthony Stevens; Dr Peter Nixon; and professor of neuroscience, Jungian analyst and Freudian analyst, Dr Ernest L Rossi. Psycho-Systems Analysts are trained to integrate Jungian psychotherapy with clinical psychophysiology, and a relevant standard of biomedical science, allowing them to work closely with medical practitioners. Psycho-Systems Analysts entered onto the IAPC Clinical Register are accredited by the International Psycho-Systems Analysis Society (IPSAS) – which is the governing body world-wide for the training of Psycho-Systems Analysts.

Neuropsychoanalysis

Founded by professor Mark Solms and Professor Jaak Panksepp, neuropsychoanalysis developed in the 1990s as an integrative approach to Freudian psychoanalysis and affective neuroscience. It is at the forefront of developments in neuroscience as applied to psychotherapy and analysis. Registrants within the neuropsychoanalysis division of the IAPC Clinical Register, must be current clinical fellows of the International Neuropsychoanalysis Society.

Clinical Hypnotherapy


The hypnotherapy modality of psychotherapy and counselling, includes all branches of hypnosis, as applied within a psychotherapy or counselling domain. IAPC registrants will have demonstrated that their training and experience in the hypnotherapy modality, meets the requirements of the register, as a hypnotherapeutic-psychotherapist, or a counselling hypnotherapist.

Neurohypnoanalysis

Founded in 1988, by Steven & Pauline Richards, Neurohypnoanalysis, is a specialist modality of clinical hypnosis, as applied within Psycho-Systems Analysis. It is based on the original works of Pierre Janet, Carl Jung, Milton Erickson and Ernest Rossi, with recent influence drawn from affective neuroscience and neuropsychoanalysis. Neurohypnoanalysts entered onto the IAPC Clinical Register are accredited by the International Psycho-Systems Analysis Society (IPSAS) – which is the governing body world-wide, for the training of Neurohypnoanalysts.

Integrative

Integrative psychotherapy and counselling, is a combined modality, comprising two or more schools of psychological therapy, that are integrated together on the basis of their complementarity. It is systematic, rather than eclectic, and here includes those approaches that continually update and inform their core structure, as part of a dynamic process.

Transpersonal

The transpersonal modality of psychotherapy and counselling, includes psychosynthesis, and all related approaches to therapy, and the human condition. IAPC registrants will have demonstrated that their training and experience in the transpersonal modality meets the requirements of the register, as a transpersonal psychotherapist, or transpersonal counsellor.

Humanistic

The humanistic modality of psychotherapy and counselling, includes person-centred therapy, gestalt therapy, transactional analysis and all other approaches, within the broadly humanistic domain, of therapy. IAPC registrants will have demonstrated that their training and experience in the humanistic modality meets the requirements of the register, as a humanistic psychotherapist, or humanistic counsellor.

Cognitive-Behavioural Modality

The cognitive-behavioural modality of psychotherapy and counselling, includes all branches of behavioural and cognitive therapy, including rational-emotive behaviour therapy (REBT) cognitive-analytic therapy (CAT) and dialectical behaviour therapy (DBT), and 'Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Behavioural Therapy'. IAPC registrants will have demonstrated that their training and experience in the cognitive-behavioural modality meets the requirements of the register, as a cognitive-behavioural psychotherapist, or cognitive-behavioural counsellor.

Clinical Psychophysiology & Biofeedback

The clinical psychophysiology & biofeedback modality, is a specialist domain, that includes all approaches to psychotherapy and counselling, that involve substantive training in the use of biofeedback techniques, psychophysiological testing, and advanced training in scientific mind-body relationships. Registrants who practice clinical capnography, as part of their integrated practice, must be current members of the British Society for Clinical Psychophysiology (BSCP) or the International Society for the Advancement of Respiratory Psychophysiology (ISARP). IAPC registrants will have demonstrated that their training and experience in the clinical psychophysiology & biofeedback modality, meets the requirements of the register, as a clinical psychophysiology & biofeedback psychotherapist, or clinical psychophysiology & biofeedback counsellor.

Coaching

Registration within the Coaching modality, is for coaches who have attained the accepted standards of their profession, for practice outside of the clinical setting. IAPC registrants will have demonstrated that their training and experience in the coaching modality meets the requirements of the register, as a non-clinical therapeutic coach.

Clinical Coaching

Clinical Coaching, is a specialist modality that combines the structure of psychotherapy and counselling, with the flexibility of coaching. Clinical coaches, are therefore able to work with the same client base as counsellors and psychotherapists, whilst having additional training in coaching skills. Typically, they will have an understanding of biomedical science, sufficient to augment their core therapeutic skills, and to liaise with medical practitioners. IAPC registrants will have demonstrated that their training and experience in the Clinical Coaching modality meets the requirements of the register, as a Clinical, Therapeutic coach.

Neuro-Linguistic Programming and Neuro-Linguistic Psychotherapy

The Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP) and Neuro-Linguistic Psychotherapy modality, includes traditional NLP and its derivatives, as applied psychotherapy & counselling. IAPC registrants will have demonstrated that their training and experience in the NLP modality meets the requirements of the register, as an NLP-psychotherapist, or NLP-counsellor.

Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR)

Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR) is a modality most often employed in the treatment of trauma. IAPC registrants will have demonstrated that their training and experience in the EMDR modality meets the requirements of the register.

Independent Practitioners Network (IPN)

This table lists all IAPC member registrants who are also members of the Independent Practitioners Network (IPN) either as participants in a full IPN Group or Forming Group. Any specific modality an IPN – IAPC registrant may also be qualified for, will appear under those modalities. Confirmation of IPN Participation will be required, to join the IAPC Clinical Register under this IPN division of the Clinical Register.
